eToro is a multi-regulated, NASDAQ-listed broker that operates in over 100 countries. It offers nine deposit methods, processes most deposits instantly, and charges no direct deposit fees — but applies a 0.5% FX conversion fee on every non-USD transaction that most new users discover only after their first deposit.

This guide covers how to deposit money into eToro, which payment methods are available in your country, the exact minimum deposit for your region, processing times for each method, the real cost of depositing (including the FX fee most guides omit), and what to do when a deposit fails.

eToro Minimum Deposit

The minimum deposit at eToro is $50 for the US, UK, and most of Europe, but the first-time amount ranges from $50 to $2,000 across six country tiers. After your first deposit, the minimum drops to $50 for all countries ($500 for bank transfers, $10 for the UK, and $1 for the US).

First DepositCountries
$50United States, United Kingdom, most European Union countries
$100Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE
$200Other eligible countries (default tier)
$500Israel
$1,000Georgia, Isle of Man, Jersey, New Zealand, Réunion
$2,000Bulgaria, Cayman Islands, Croatia, Gibraltar, South Africa, Vietnam

The $50 minimum for the US, UK, and most of Europe is competitive — lower than many multi-asset brokers. The $2,000 tier is not. South Africa, Bulgaria, Croatia, Gibraltar, Cayman Islands, and Vietnam face one of the highest minimum deposits among major regulated brokers. For context, Exness requires $1 and XM requires $5.

Unverified Account Limit
Unverified eToro accounts are limited to a total deposit of $2,250. You must complete identity verification (KYC) to deposit beyond this amount. Contact eToro Customer Service to upgrade to Verified status. Complete verification before your first deposit to avoid delays.

For subsequent deposits (after the first), the minimum is $50 regardless of country. Bank transfers require a $500 minimum. In the US the subsequent minimum is $1, and in the UK it is $10.

How to Deposit Money in eToro

eToro deposits take under five minutes on both desktop and the eToro mobile app, provided your account is already verified.

  1. Log into eToro and go to the Wallet tab.
  2. Click “Add Funds” under the account you want to deposit to. If you have a local currency account (GBP, EUR, AUD, or DKK), you can choose between depositing to that account or your USD investment account.
  3. Enter the deposit amount. The minimum for your country and method is displayed below the input field.
  4. Choose your payment method and follow the on-screen steps. For credit cards, enter card details and approve any 3D Secure verification. For e-wallets, log into PayPal, Skrill, or Neteller to authorise the payment. For bank transfers, eToro displays its bank details and a Transaction ID — include this as your payment reference.
Check Available Methods
Not sure which deposit methods work in your country? Go to the eToro sidebar and press “Deposit Funds” — the platform displays only the methods available in your region. Available methods change by country and eToro entity.

All methods except bank transfer process instantly. Bank transfer deposits take 4–7 business days. Always include the Transaction ID as your payment reference when depositing by bank transfer — omitting it delays crediting.

eToro Deposit Methods

eToro accepts credit/debit cards, bank transfers, PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, eToro Money, Trustly, iDEAL, and Przelewy24 — nine methods total, all processed instantly except bank transfer (4–7 business days). Available methods vary by country; your eToro platform shows only the options that work in your region.

Supported cards include Visa, Mastercard, Visa Electron, and Maestro. Card transactions in the EEA may require 3D Secure authentication. Payments appear on your bank statement as “Etoro” or “etoroprod.wpengine.com.”

eToro Money is the fastest deposit method but is available only in the UK and select EU countries. Funds in your eToro Money account transfer instantly to your trading account, and withdrawals back to eToro Money are also instant. You must already have funds in your eToro Money balance to use this method.

Trustly deposits cannot be withdrawn via Trustly — funds deposited through Trustly become withdrawable (via another method) after 7 business days.

E-Wallet Country Restrictions
PayPal is not available for eToro (UK) Ltd and eToro (Seychelles) Ltd clients. In South Africa, Kenya, and several other countries, PayPal becomes available only after your first deposit via another method. PayPal is no longer accepted under FCA regulation.

Neteller is not supported in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, and most EU countries.

Skrill is not supported in the UK, most EU countries, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and several others.

These restrictions change frequently. Check your available methods directly on the eToro platform.

Which Method Should You Use?

Credit or debit card is the best deposit method for most traders — it is available in the widest number of countries, processes instantly, and has the highest single-transaction limit at $40,000. If you are in the UK or EU and have an eToro Money account, that is the fastest option with instant transfers up to $500,000 and instant withdrawals back. Bank transfer is the only option for deposits above $40,000 but takes 4–7 business days.

For African Traders
eToro is available in South Africa and Seychelles only. South African traders can deposit via credit/debit card or bank transfer. PayPal becomes available after your first deposit via another method. Skrill and Neteller are supported in South Africa. If your card is declined by your bank, try Skrill or Neteller first — e-wallets bypass bank-level blocks on international broker transactions.

Deposit Processing Time

eToro processes all deposits instantly except bank transfers, which take 4–7 business days. Instant means funds appear in your trading account within seconds to minutes.

Deposit Not Showing?
If your deposit hasn’t appeared after the expected time, check your eToro portfolio for a pending transaction. Bank transfers depend on your bank’s processing speed — the 4–7 day window starts from when eToro’s bank confirms receipt, not from when you initiate the transfer. If a deposit remains pending for more than 7 business days, contact eToro support with your Transaction ID and a screenshot of your bank’s payment confirmation.

For bank transfers in non-USD currencies, the exchange rate is calculated on the day eToro receives the funds — not the day you send the transfer. With a 4–7 day window, the rate you receive may differ from the rate at the time of sending.

eToro Deposit Limits

eToro deposit limits range from $10,000 per transaction for e-wallets to $500,000 for eToro Money, with no upper limit on bank transfers. Unverified accounts have a hard cap of $2,250 total regardless of method.

MethodMin per TransactionMax per Transaction
eToro Money$50*$500,000
Credit/Debit Card$50*$40,000
PayPal$50*$10,000
Neteller$50*$10,000
Skrill$50*$10,000
Bank Transfer$500Unlimited
Trustly$50*$40,000
iDEAL$50*$55,500
Przelewy24$50*$11,500

*Minimum per transaction is $50 for subsequent deposits. First deposit minimums vary by country — see Minimum Deposit. US accounts: $1 subsequent minimum. UK accounts: $10 subsequent minimum.

Bank transfer is the only method with no upper limit, making it the default for large deposits. For amounts between $10,000 and $40,000, credit/debit card or Trustly are faster alternatives. E-wallets (PayPal, Skrill, Neteller) cap at $10,000 per transaction — split into multiple transactions if you need to deposit more.

eToro Deposit Fees

eToro charges zero deposit fees on all nine methods, but applies a 0.5% FX conversion fee on every non-USD deposit. Since eToro’s investment account operates in USD, this fee affects every non-US depositor by default.

If you deposit €1,000, eToro converts it to USD and deducts 0.5% — approximately €5 lost to conversion. The same 0.5% applies on withdrawals. Over multiple deposit-withdrawal cycles, the cost compounds: deposit and withdraw once, and you pay 1% total (0.5% in + 0.5% out).

eToro Club TierFX Conversion FeeRequirement
Bronze / Silver / Gold0.5%Default for all clients
Platinum / Platinum+0.25%$25,000+ equity
Diamond0%$250,000+ equity

These rates are approximate for major currencies (EUR, GBP). The actual conversion fee varies by currency, payment method, and region — some currencies incur higher rates. Club tier discounts apply primarily to bank transfers and local currency account conversions. For the complete schedule by currency and payment method, see our eToro Fees guide.

How to Avoid the FX Conversion Fee
If you are in the UK, EU, or Australia, open an eToro local currency account (available in GBP, EUR, AUD, and DKK). Deposits to your local currency account are free of conversion fees, and trading assets denominated in that same currency incurs no FX charge. You can transfer funds from your local currency account to your USD investment account when needed — but the 0.5% fee applies at that point. This option is not available to African or most international traders.

You may also incur fees from your own bank or payment provider, especially intermediary bank fees on wire transfers. These are not eToro fees. When depositing by bank transfer, send in the same currency as eToro’s receiving bank account (USD, EUR, or GBP) to avoid unnecessary bank-side conversion charges stacking on top of eToro’s 0.5%.

Recurring Deposits

eToro offers automatic recurring deposits from any connected credit or debit card on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly schedule. This is useful for dollar-cost averaging into CopyTrader portfolios or long-term stock positions without manually depositing each time.

  1. Make a successful credit/debit card deposit with the card connected to your eToro account. After the deposit confirms, a banner on the confirmation screen offers the recurring deposit option.
  2. Alternatively, go to Settings → Recurring Deposits to set it up from your account dashboard.
  3. Select the amount and currency.
  4. Select your connected credit/debit card as the funding source.
  5. Choose the frequency: weekly, every two weeks, or monthly.
  6. Customise the deposit date or accept the default (monthly on the 1st). You can view and modify scheduled deposits at any time.

Recurring deposits are available only via credit/debit card — not via bank transfer, PayPal, or other e-wallets. Each recurring transaction is subject to the same 0.5% FX conversion fee if depositing in a non-USD currency.

Is My Deposit Safe with eToro?

Yes — eToro holds client funds in segregated accounts, encrypts all transactions with SSL, and is regulated by three Tier-1 authorities (FCA, CySEC, ASIC). Every deposit is processed through a regulated payment service provider authorised by a financial regulator.

Payment ProviderAuthorising Regulator

eToro MoneyFinancial Conduct Authority (UK)

If eToro goes bankrupt, segregated funds cannot be used to pay the company’s creditors. Under the CySEC entity, clients are covered by the Investor Compensation Fund for up to EUR 20,000. Under the FCA entity, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) covers up to GBP 85,000.

Your Entity Matters
Which eToro entity covers you depends on your country of residence. UK clients are under eToro (UK) Ltd (FCA). EU/EEA clients are under eToro (Europe) Ltd (CySEC). Australian clients are under eToro AUS Capital Ltd (ASIC). Most international clients — including South Africa and Seychelles — are served by eToro (Seychelles) Ltd, which operates under lighter regulatory oversight than FCA or CySEC and does not offer investor compensation schemes. For the full regulatory breakdown, see our eToro Review.

Common eToro Deposit Problems

The most common eToro deposit problems are card declines, third-party payment rejections, delayed bank transfers, and unexpected currency conversion — all preventable if you know the cause before depositing.

Card Declined

Your bank may block the transaction as a fraud prevention measure, especially if you have never made an international payment to a trading platform. Call your bank before your first deposit and ask them to approve transactions to eToro. If the card is still declined, try a different card or switch to Skrill or Neteller — e-wallets bypass bank-level blocks entirely.

Third-Party Payment Rejected

eToro does not accept third-party payments. The name on your payment method must exactly match the name on your eToro account. Depositing from someone else’s card, bank account, or e-wallet violates eToro’s terms and conditions and can result in account closure. There is no exception for family members or joint holders (unless the account is a corporate account with authorised signatories).

Bank Transfer Not Credited

Bank transfers take 4–7 business days. The most common cause of additional delay is a missing Transaction ID in the payment reference. Always include both the Transaction ID and your eToro username when making a bank transfer. After sending, open a support ticket and attach a screenshot of the payment confirmation or SWIFT document from your bank.

PayPal Not Available

PayPal availability on eToro depends on your country and eToro entity. It is not supported for clients under eToro (UK) Ltd or eToro (Seychelles) Ltd. In many countries (including South Africa and Kenya), PayPal becomes available only after your first deposit via another method. If PayPal does not appear on your deposit screen, your entity or country does not support it — use a credit card or bank transfer instead.

Unexpected Currency Conversion Cost

If you deposit in a non-USD currency, eToro converts it to USD and deducts a 0.5% FX conversion fee. This is disclosed in eToro’s fee schedule but is not prominently displayed during the deposit flow. If you are in the UK, EU, or Australia, open a local currency account to avoid this fee on same-currency trades. See Deposit Fees for full details.

Conclusion

eToro deposits are instant and fee-free on all methods except bank transfer (4–7 days), but the 0.5% FX conversion fee on every non-USD deposit is the real cost — unavoidable unless you reach Diamond tier ($250,000+ equity) or open a local currency account (UK, EU, and Australia only).

Is it safe to deposit? Yes. Three Tier-1 licences (FCA, CySEC, ASIC), nine regulated payment service providers, SSL encryption, and segregated client funds. International clients under the Seychelles entity receive lighter regulatory oversight but the same operational standards.

Here is what we recommend for your first eToro deposit:

  1. Use a credit or debit card — widest availability, instant processing, and up to $40,000 per transaction. If your card is declined, try Skrill or Neteller.
  2. Deposit the minimum for your country ($50 for most countries, $2,000 for South Africa). Verify the system works with your payment method before committing more.
  3. Complete KYC verification immediately — unverified accounts are capped at $2,250 total, and incomplete verification causes withdrawal delays later.
  4. Test a withdrawal after your first deposit to verify the full deposit-withdrawal cycle works for your method and country.

Can I deposit to eToro with PayPal?
It depends on your country and eToro entity. PayPal is not available for eToro (UK) Ltd or eToro (Seychelles) Ltd clients. In some countries (including South Africa), PayPal becomes available only after your first deposit via another method. Check your eToro deposit screen to see if PayPal appears as an option.
Can I deposit from someone else’s bank account or card?

What is eToro’s FX conversion fee?

Can I set up automatic recurring deposits on eToro?
Yes. eToro offers recurring deposits via credit or debit card. You can schedule weekly, biweekly, or monthly automatic deposits. This is available only for cards already connected to your account — not for bank transfers, PayPal, or other e-wallets. What currencies can I deposit in?
eToro’s investment account operates in USD. You can deposit in GBP, EUR, AUD, DKK, CHF, SEK, NOK, PLN, SGD, AED, MXN, BRL, and more depending on your payment method. All non-USD deposits are automatically converted to USD with a 0.5% FX fee. UK, EU, and Australian users can open a local currency account (GBP, EUR, AUD, or DKK) to trade in their own currency without conversion fees on same-currency assets.
Why was my eToro deposit declined?
The most common reasons: your bank blocked the international transaction (call your bank to approve it), you used a payment method under a different name (eToro rejects third-party payments), your account is unverified and you have hit the $2,250 total limit, or the payment method is not available in your country. Try a different card, switch to Skrill or Neteller, or complete KYC verification.
